Bios

Chrissy Fowler

Once upon a time, Chrissy Fowler thought that contra dancing was a strange phenomenon in which the citizens of Blue Hill, Maine got as dizzy as they could weaving to and fro while listening to her cousin George play fiery Irish fiddle tunes. (This is, of course, all true.) And now, this strange phenomenon is an essential part of Chrissy's life - as a dancer, caller, organizer and cheerleader. She has danced in several states, including the state of suspension (in pond water) and the persistent state of euphoria. Chrissy has even written a sermon on dance as spiritual practice, which she can elaborate on at length if you will let her. But really, you should be dancing instead.

Annadeene Konesni

Annadeene Konesni started contradancing in 1997, and was quickly enraptured with the mix of movement, rhythm, music, touch and community. Since then Annadeene has added contradance to her list of passions.

Now Annadeene has danced in 13 states and 1 US Virgin Island. She once tried to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for contradancing the most consecutive days in a row: her record is 9.

Closely related to dance, is another of Annadeene's passions, Art. She graduated form the Museum School of Fine Art, Boston, and is now making her living as a mixed media artist. She frequently dances while she paints. Her work can be found at Aarhus Gallery, and on her website Annadeene.com

Tom Fowler

Tom Fowler was dragged to his first contradance by Chrissy sometime in the 1990's. He didn't go to another for five years. Luckily, since then he's gone much more than once every five years. He lives in Belfast with Annadeene and Louis and is proud to play a 1917 Gibson A1 Mandolin. When not seen at Belfast Flying Shoes, Tom can be found wrestling wild boar (cianghale) in central Italy.

Phyllis Buchanan

Phyllis has been playing the same fiddle since she was 12 years old. She and the fiddle have mellowed well together, especially since she started playing for dances a few years ago. She also plays the cello and is working towards becoming a dynamic rhythm bluegrass cellist. One of her missions in life is to celebrate joyful chaos, which is a fitting ambition for one of the leaders of the Community Band. She is the kind of person who does not mind posing with fruits and vegetables.
